Our instructors are some of the best in the business. With over 30 years of combined experience in the classroom and on the table, our instructors are able to convey academics clearly but even more importantly help you understand how utilize the information in your practice. We cater to each individual’s style of learning including auditory, visual and kinesthetic. All of our course materials were designed or adapted by our instructors to make sure every learning style is accommodated. We want to make sure you are able to hear and understand the information, see demonstrations, charts or graphs visually, physically feel and receive the benefits, and finally by doing or applying the hands on knowledge. More than subject matter experts, our educators are versed in modern adult learning theory, curriculum design, and teaching strategies to customize each class for individual learning needs.

 

We also offer over 25 continuing education workshops and advanced training programs which are designed to expand upon your knowledge and keep you up to date on the latest therapeutic methods. Each of our instructors are specialists in their field — highly respected educators and practitioners with a passion for their methods and the profession.

Hope has been a NCBTMB Approved Provider of Massage Therapy Continuing Education since 2011.  She teaches 10 different continuing education courses such as Neuromuscular Therapy, Clinical Aromatherapy , Ethics, Business and Marketing Psychology and Stretching. Hope is also a Certified Yoga Teacher, drawing from this the practice of mindful awareness added to everything she does. Her passion for the massage profession is apparent; from the courses she writes and teaches, to the charities she is involved with. Her compassionate nature coupled with dedication, knowledge, and experience makes her a powerful resource to guide you along your educational path.

Hope DeVall, LMBT #10846 is the founder, CEO, Program Director and Lead Educator at the Western North Carolina School of Massage. Hope is also the owner of the Mind Body Connection, a center for therapeutic massage in Asheville, NC. In 2010, she founded Serenity Now Massage Therapy, LLC in Cornelius, NC. She studied Communications at Gardner Webb University, and she has used her education as a tool for successful business 

Desiree Porter is a graduate of the Western North Carolina School of Massage, Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist and Licensed Esthetician.  She graduated at the top of her class and has developed her own unique style and successful massage practice.  In addition to her massage education, Desiree sought certification in Myofascial Release, Oncology and Prenatal Massage.  She is patient, kind and compassionate

with students and clients.  Desiree is highly knowledgeable and skilled in the practice of massage therapy, along with 11 years of practicing as an esthetician, she has a broad range of experience to share with massage students.  

Lauren is a graduate of the Western North Carolina School of Massage, and a licensed massage and bodywork therapist. She also holds certifications in personal training, yoga instruction, and triathlon/cycling coaching. Lauren has always had a fascination with the human body and how it moves and functions, so teaching Anatomy & Physiology and Musculoskeletal Anatomy & Kinesiology seemed like the perfect fit! In addition to 

Darren is a Western North Carolina native and has been a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist in Asheville since April of 2017. As a graduate of the WNC School of Massage, his career began at a local physical therapy clinic where he worked alongside an esteemed staff of healers. In his first two years of practice, he was voted WNC's No.1 Massage Therapist in the ‘18 & ‘19 Mountain Xpress "Best of" awards. While primarily utilizing Neuromuscular therapy, his practice revolves around injury/surgical 

rehabilitation, pain management, and range of motion progression.  Around the age of nineteen, Darren began developing mild symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome due to excessive guitar play. He took a job working the desk at a local spa where he was required to receive treatment. After only four sessions, the issue which had hindered him for over two years had been completely alleviated.

After seeing the power of massage firsthand, he enrolled at the WNC School of Massage. In February of 2017, he graduated with his diploma and a certificate in Clinical Neuromuscular Therapy. The first year and a half of his career was spent learning everything he could from the physical therapy clinic.

After some deliberation, Darren decided to return to his alma mater to open his own practice and pursue a path in massage instruction. All the while, maintaining the intention of offering the most effective and natural pain management in Western North Carolina.

Christine started practicing massage therapy in 2019 after graduating from the Western North Carolina School of Massage. She holds certifications in Clinical Neuromuscular Therapy, Hospital Based Massage, and Therapeutic Relaxation. Blending modalities is her favorite way to facilitate the health and wellness of her clients.

Paul Hodsdon is a licensed massage and bodywork therapist, license #17005 and also an NCSF certified personal trainer, certification # 2716872. Paul is a graduate of the Western North Carolina School of Massage and previously worked as a licensed chiropractic assistant in the state of Maine. He is also certified in clinical neuromuscular therapy. 

Paul developed passion for helping people realize their optimal health. Through a combination of massage therapy and personal training he offers a fully customized program for his clients. Combined with his years as a chiropractic assistant, Paul has the tools and knowledge to help people live a pain free and active life. Paul has always led an active outdoor lifestyle with a passion for mountain and road biking, hiking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. He believes strongly that age is a state of mind and that staying active is vital to a long, healthy life.  

her massage education, Lauren has a Master's degree in Education from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.  She makes learning about the body fun.
