adventure, risk management, and emergency medicine and was trained in structural bodywork.  Jon is also a 500- hour yoga teacher, a nationally registered EMT and AHA CPR instructor. he has spent about 8 years and 10,000 plus hours training people inbackcountry emergency medicine, teaching in every conceivable venue (from lecture halls to trail shelters and everything in between). Growing up in Maine, he attended Hampshire college in Western Massachusetts before coming to Asheville for the first time in 2003 as a whitewater raft guide. When he is not at work, you'll find find in the woods hiking, mountain biking, or practicing Tae kwon-do.

Jon Clancy, EMT-W, LMBT, RYT  is an anatomy nerd and structural bodywork therapist.  He started Active Asheville as a way to help people do more of the things they love. Jon believes that people feel better when their posture is natural, relaxed, and balanced. He has studied anatomy exhaustively so that he is able to help people feel good and play more. His background is in backcountry

Desiree Porter is a graduate of the Western North Carolina School of Massage, Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist and Licensed Esthetician.  She graduated at the top of her class and has already developed her own unique style and successful massage practice.  In addition to her massage education, Desiree sought certification in Myofascial Release, Oncology and Prenatal Massage.  She is patient, kind and compassionate

with students and clients.  Desiree is highly knowledgeable and skilled in the practice of massage therapy, along with 11 years of practicing as an esthetician, she has a broad range of experience to share with massage students.

Julie Eberhardt PTA, LMBT, CPT has spent over 25 years in the physical therapy field teaching people how to move their bodies again.  In the past 10 years this has expanded to teaching PT Assistant students during their internships and then holding classes for the public to teach self care.  Expanding into a position at The WNC School of Massage seems to be a natural evolution.  Julie graduated from Herkimer County Community College in 1992 and then from the 1200 hour massage program at NY Institute of Massage in 2001.

Dan Carter, graduated from Western North Carolina School of Massage May 2017 and is a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist. He was in high school when he first found relief from his back pains as a competitive wrestler through massage.  From that point on Dan has been on a roundabout path to helping others.  And now, Dan finds a deep joy when helping his clients improve their quality of life through massage.

The winter of 2017 there was another evolution with Julie’s education.  She received her Persoanl Training Certificate from ACE.  With all this knowledge Julie is so excited to focus on a whole body approach when teaching massage students.  She believes that we are a whole body and we need to be treated as such.  To divide the body into parts is a disservice to the massage practice and the community.

Dan is a devoted husband and father of two which consumes most of his time. If you ever catch him with some time off he loves to play the mandolin, hike in these mountains, and swim in these mountain waters.
